I'm wondering that, in case i ever need to charge my ipod in a friends computer. I wouldnt want to bother him with all the crap that's installed?(applemobileserver, ipod drivers etc).

So basically all i need to know, is if i plug my ipod into the usb port will it install anything, or will it just use the port for power output? I just hope it's the latter.

It will just install drivers (no actual software) and then charge....no need for iTunes

Ok i guess, having just the drivers installed somewhere in the system wont hurt. As long as there's no more clutter.

    thank you

you can charge it on pretty much any USB 2.0 port on any computer. The iPod shouldn't affect anything or be affected. and No, iTunes is not required to charge it. iTunes will only sync media.

I use the USB port on my Wii all the time to charge mine. Any powered USB port should charge it no problem.

Well that's not true. I just tried the usb ports on my playstation 2 port and a usb charger for a mobile phone i have and both ways didnt seem to charge the ipod.

It seems that only with pc usb ports i have been able to charge so far. I am also thinking of getting a philips usb charger.

And another thing. Does the charging time vary between ports? Either pc or wall mounts

Yes it should do. Wall chargers produce alot more power (240volts)(of course it is transformed into watever voltage is needed but either way) than your standard USB port. (5volts)

i much prefer my wall chargers (only a buck or so each from that tinternet thingy). i dont find, for whatever reason, usb charging nearly as reliable.
