False. You can still restore to 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 with any 8GB iPod. Which from his details he has.

JV it does not work. Comes up with Error 28, I think newer MCs loaded with 3.1.3 do not work with downgrade. It went into 'Connect to iTunes', and I can't install 3.1.3 either because the 'build is not compatible' so I'm trying to set up the local TSS server to restore to 3.1.3.

I have an 8gb 2g MC and i can downgrade to 3.1.2 from 4.0 but if i try to go to 3.1.3 i get an error. So im pretty sure you can downgrade considering i did it last night

One of the 4 iPods in my house came with 3.1.3 and I managed to downgrade it to 3.1.2 and it is currently on 3.1.3. I have gone to iOS 4 and back with it. No SHSH or anything.

I use a laptop running iTunes 9.0 to downgrade and jailbreak everything and then restore from back-up on different computer.

It doesn't work, even with Shift+Click.

I read that Error 28 was a hardware error and I bought my iPod a month ago, so I think they may have patched it over.

Yep. There are iPod touch 2G 8gb mc model where I believe the shsh blobs aren't needed and there is the ipt "2.5G" 8gb with a newer bootrom I think. This device requires shsh blobs for downgrade.

I downgraded mine to 3.1.2 then upgraded to 3.1.3. Worked perfectly.
