I don't want to upgrade my firmware to 3.1.2 (the newest) because not too long ago I got the last update, and they aren't free.

Is it possible to jailbreak a 2nd gen iTouch with 2.1 or do I have to spend more money on upgrading it just to jailbreak it?

    Rawr.

    Thanks

Get the upgrade. 5 dollars is not that much.

You can jailbreak 2.1... not with blackra1n, but with another program. I don't know which one, but just google it and you'll find out.

You can restore your iPod in iTunes and you will get the newest update for free, from iTunes, or atleast that's what my brother did.

It'll only be free if he's on at least 3.0. If he's below 3.0, he'll have to pay, but I heard it is buggy and you can get it for free the using the way you mentioned.
