I want to jailbreak my mom's iPhone but my brother and sister say that it voids the warranty, and that Apple has a special way to check if your iPhone is jailbroken. I know that jailbreaking voids the warranty, but do they have special software to check if the iPhone is jailbroken?

In theory, the "app killswitch" could detect it, but the killswitch really doesn't do anything.

In not theory, they can detect it if you brought it an and non-DFU restored/restored from a backup.

If you DFU(or recovery)-restored not from a backup, you are fine.

Probably, but we don't know about it, and they haven't done anything with it.

Anyways, its fine. So I wouldn't worry myself.

Either way, if you think they can tell, all you have to do is restore. Simple enough.

In other words, your brother and sister know nothing. Ignore them, but I'd get permission from your mom.

    WE are the experts.

    No they dont.

and if anyone tells you different, they are dirty liars.

but don't bring it in jailbroken, cause you can tell by looking at it. Restore it and youre fine.

You can tell if its jailbroken, though that's about it. Restoring it back to normal would remove nearly all traces (you could always analyze the memory forensically but no way would Apple do that to each phone)

Aren't there apps that can tell if you're jailbroken?

Ha that just made my day. Whenever you talk to someone about jailbreaking they always spout these two responses out like they're experts on the subject.

A Restore completely wipes the OS on the iPhone, which is the only thing modified when jailbroken.

Hence, there is absolutely no way they can tell.
