Does anyone know what this dot does? (Between the sleep/wake button and the screen)

    I can't believe it took me this long to notice it - but if you look at the top left hand corner of the touch screen (between the sleep/wake button and the edge of the screen) you will see a small dot, about 4mm diameter - you may have to look at it in very bright light.

    I've attached a diagram with the location of the dot circled in red.

    Anyone know what it's for?

    -secret infa red transfer feature?
    -secret camera?
    -nothing useful?

    Ambient light sensor. For auto-dimming the screen.

    Think that's nifty, the iphone has a proximity sensor. When you put the phone close to your head to talk it auto turns off the touch screen so you don't accidently select something with your cartilage

    ambient light sencor thats hard to see in most light

    Now I understand why most of the cases have a circle cut out there.

    You probably have got it...I didn't think I had initially, but it's really only visible in sunlight.

    wow, i thought my touch just had something f***** up about it. thats actually a pretty cool feature though.
