All of the betas seem to only be released for the 3G or the 2nd-Gen Touch.

there is a version for the 1st gen ipods, if you were a dev you would have access to that, however ts illegal and against the rules to tell you where to get it, besides signing up as a developer thru apple, pay $99 and be able to download it.

    Yeah, it will.
However, It doesn't have a microphone, so the new recorder thing will not work, etc.
The 1st iPod Touch is getting a little old now...

Yes, in Apple's Developer Connection website you can download 3.0 for 1G, 2G and iPhone.

the first generation iPod touch was a great device...there are no doubts about that.....but the only feature i can think of that it would benefit from this update it would be copy/paste and landscape in some apps.....other than that I don't really see the point to it

Thank god I waited for the 2g

There's also all the new YouTube features which I really like. Now I can sign in with my YouTube account and watch my subscribed videos and actually read comments without having to go to the mobile YouTube website via Safari.

Now that is what i call an improvement, at least we can finally relive the experience of watching and accessing YouTube in the PC via the touch... Also, the cut-copy-paste in Notes and Mail is a great plus point!
