I bought one of these - http://www.ebay.com/itm/120730550325?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 I like the design, but my iPod Touch randomly thinks it isn't connected, puts the volume slider on the screen, and pauses the music. I am new to iPods, and I am trying to figure out if this is something on purpose from Apple (using a 3rd party accessory), or if the cable just might be bad. UPDATE - I just tried my daughters iPod (same generation, just different capacity) and it works fine. The only difference between the 2 is mine is running 5.1.1 and hers is 5.0.1. I am going to update her iPod and give it a try. It looks like it might be a problem with my connector. Any ideas? Thanks, Dan
I think 5.1.1 broke a lot of accessory compatibility. You don't have SHSH blobs for any lower firmwares, do you? If you have never jailbroke your iPod you probably don't..
That wasn't in the release notes. Bummer. I really liked this cable. I assume this was on purpose? Or is there some hope that it will come back? Dan
Apple tends to not care at all about any other companies compatibility, or customer satisfaction when it comes to other companies...so I would not expect support to come back. I do think there is a simple way to disable the limitation, though... What you can try is "Resupported 4.0+", a Cydia tweak that enables unsupported accessories to work. To get that you will have to jailbreak with redsn0w. This will be a semitethered jailbreak since you are on 5.1.1, meaning if you reboot your iPod, Cydia, that accessory cable, and Safari won't work until you boot with redsn0w. So you can decide whether that is worth it to jailbreak: 1. Download and open redsn0w 0.9.11b1 2. Click Jailbreak and follow the instructions 3. When done, go back to Extras > Just boot and follow the instructions 4. Open the Cydia app on your iPod 5. Go to the Manage tab, tap Sources, tap Edit, and tap Add 6. Type in "thebigboss.org/semitether" and tap Add Souce 7. Install the "SemiTether" from within the source 8. Open the SemiTether app on your iPod To boot tethered when you need to, open redsn0w, click Extras > Just boot, and follow the instructions. If you don't reboot or turn off your iPod often, this shouldn't hinder you too much...but it is up to you if you really want to use that accessory. I am not entirely sure if Resupported will even work with that accessory, but I wouldn't at all be surprised if it did... But before you do any of this, I would do a fresh iTunes restore of your iPod and try it.
It is definately 5.1.1. *sigh* I figured out that it appears to happen after the device has been plugged in for 15 seconds and then works fine. Hopefully I can just work around this for now. For my car, I am planning to get an iSimple gateway, but wanted this for rental cars or our other car. Thanks for the sanity check. Dan
