why do people try to stay away from it so much? When I had it on1.1.1 it was fine most of the time. I really want this app but I don't think it would work with 1.1.4

It usually causes the problem where touch screen is disabled in apps which leads many to panic and cause them to restore. There are multiple solutions to this but they require some preparation, meaning they need ssh or a respring app already installed.

There are some compatibility issues as described above.
If you do try it and it causes a problem, either uninstall Dock.app via SSH or other applications you believe may be causing the problem.

If you do encounter a problem and need to delete dock.app, then be aware that is not found in the usual /Applications.

I believe it is found in
    /usr/local/bin/dock
Delete that folder, dock, and it'll remove the app.
