Just experimenting and found that the camera application on Touch takes a screenshot in Mail and Safari. The path where the file is saved is /Privat/Var/tmp/UpdatedSnapshots/
The name of the file is com.apple.mobilesafari-default.jpg.
YES it is a jpg file.

    How I do it

    open safari
drag finger on starburst to see the icons and release on Camera icon. This works in mail application also.

I do not know how, but it works. This I have done on a TOUCH

This is a standard feature of Dock. If you create this folder: ~/Media/DCIM/100APPLE, the screenshots will save there (and won't be overwritten each time you create a screenshot). Also, you can take a screenshot anywhere, anytime.

You guys bring a couple of pretty interesting things to my attention. I was looking for a way to take screenshots of directions and maps from a site like maps.google.com (at home or work where I have wi-fi) and save them on the Touch so that I could access them on the road (where i dont have wi-fi).

So if I were to use Safari (or mail or google maps) to take screenshots using dock would it give me a good enough picture (resolution) to serve my purpose?

    Thanks.
