    Here goes:

I'm on the verge of getting a new 1st Gen 8GB iPod Touch from a friend. The iPod is new (unwanted present) but because it was a present he has no idea where the receipt is.

If I buy it, then in 2 months it breaks, what do I do? I live in Cornwall and the nearest Apple store is London, so would I be able to email them/post it to them? And do I need the receipt? I've read they just check the serial number, can someone please explain?

    Thanks

A serial number should be fine.

It's located on the back of the iPod touch, on the back of the iPod touch box, or in iTunes.

If you get a used Touch can you look up the serial on Apple to see the history of it? That is if it was every registored?
