Ok, i've been surfing the web, reading forums and it seems that the problem i have, all my icons have dissappeared, is due to categories.

Is there a way to resolve the issue without restoring? Please say yes...

Use a terminal and run an app to show the icons, you could open installer and load poof for example, too.

In terminal (ssh in with root and alpine ...):
    /Applications/Installer.app/Installer
