.DMG is gone!

    I am currently running Mac OSX ML and im creating the bootable thumb drive, but i need the .dmg thing, but its gone. what do i have to do to get that file again...

    the .dmg that is needed to create a bootable USB drive, the install file for ML. Or just the Install File you use to set it up.

    well i know ill get it from doing that, but i just want to know if i can get my original file back so i dont have to re download it. my internet is sooooo slow

    I don't have a Mac, but I would think it may have gotten deleted after it was installed. To free up space and get it out of your way.

    Try going into Disk Utility. It should show a list on the left of recently mounted DMGs. If that does not work, then try searching for the DMG file. Also, if you still have the Install Mac OS X file in your Applications folder or something like that, then you can just copy the install Mac OS X file to your USB. You will need to create a DMG though. Then you will need to place the file inside and using that, you will have to restore to the USB you are copying to. I think that if you are not able to find it, then Apple might have programmed their installer to delete the DMG after the installation is complete, so as to not let people do what you are doing right now, trying to make a bootable USB.

    Sadly, it gets rid of it after you use it like samw40 said. I updated thinking it wouldn't delete it so I could update other Macs in the house without having to re-download it, but found out it got deleted. So only way is to just re-download it.
