Just curious if anyone knows how to "explore" the .dmg files located in the restore file from the 1.1.3 update.

I've tried to no avail. Is there no possible way to explore this once the .dmg file is created?

If someone can figure out a way to view and extract the contents of the .dmg files we could (in theory) place them on a jailbroken iPod touch.

EDIT: Should've searched; apparently they are password protected.

You could? Where are the operating system files stored on the iPod and how do you access them?

    Cheers

Once you get the DMG file broken down, how would you get it onto your iPod so that it is a functioning operating system?

Where is the operating system stored on the iPod?

    Cheers

If you could get the .dmg file extracted you would then find the individual applications that everyone is looking for and use them in 1.1.2.

This is purely speculation but it worked with 1.1.2 apps in 1.1.1.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't that they got the password to the restore files but simply found a backdoor within the file system.
