    1. Download this hosts file
    2. SSH into your jailbroken iPhone/iPod Touch using a client like WinSCP
    3. Navigate to /etc/
    4. -Optional- Rename the hosts file currently in the device to hosts.back
    5. Replace the hosts file with the new hosts file that you downloaded
    6. Reboot your device

Care to explain how this works?

Sorry if this is old, I haven't been paying attention to the iPod community at all lately.

from a quick look it just points most ad urls back to 127.0.0 basically making them disappear

So would we still see the boxes where the ads would be with a little blue question mark or would it be 100% gone?

it should work on 2.1, and from experience they should be 100% gone, if it works the same way as it does under windows doing the same trick
