Any way to do this? It is absolutely ridiculous that I have to wait each and every time I open Cydia.

Yes, I wish there was a way to tell it to only check like once a day, etc. Back in the old days with installer and 1.1.x, there was an app that let you do that. But these days....don't think so.

The only solution is to keep taping "cancel" before it starts. It will then eventually stop and may save you a few seconds of loading. This is what I usually do Except for once a week i'll just let it go to see if there is aucutally any updates (which most of the time there isn't!)

No I have a good adblocking hosts file (I don't click them anyways) and I don't want to be w/o screenies

    Answer ICY
I use both ICY & Cydia,
though i'm one of those that cydia keeps going wrong and i have to use SSH to fix it (though i haven't bothered in a week or 2).

As much as I hate Icy, use it if you want to install something really quickly. Otherwise, use Cydia.
