What is the difference between recovery firmware and restore firmware?

    What and What?
Neither of the things you just described exist.
There is one firmware, and it's called "firmware".

I think you mean Recovery mode which is a mode you put your iPod in when something goes wrong, and you want to restore.

Restoring is a process that involves erasing your iPod and restoring the firmware to it's factory settings.

    Comprende?

@Jonny He means Upgrade & Restore. (I think)
A restore completely removes everything, and upgrade only replaces system software.

They both hit the nail on the head...
    Good work.
