The ones for the iPhone made by Apple only have a microphone, now volume/track controls. Trust me, I have stood very confused staring at the box of iPhone headphones in Wal-Mart before.

    headphones are headphones

if you have a mic and plug it into that doesnt support a mic then that wont work
if it does support a mic then ya it would work

The second generation iPod touch supports the mic but not the volume controls. The 3Gs and iPod touch 3G support the mic and the volume controls.

Yeh that's wrong. I have iPhone earbuds, with volume and mic, and the iPod Touch 2G is compatible.
