I've hunted about on YouTube and these forums for an answer to this question but have not found one outright, and since none of my friends has a Touch or iphone, I don't have anyone else to ask.

Also, I am hoping that this question falls within the realm of acceptable q's considering the rules. If it doesn't, mods/admins please feel free to delete this thread with my apologies.

What exactly does jailbreaking an iPod Touch do to it? How does it make it function differently from a non-hacked one?

For the record, this is out of pure curiosity - I am getting a Touch in a couple weeks and have no intention whatsoever of hacking/jailbreaking it simply because I'd like to keep the warranty intact "just in case".

    Thanks,

    Maple

PS - A second question - can anyone account for call quality using the internet phone thing on the Touch?

    Unjailbroken has more battery power.

You can theme it. This mean you can easily change the icon's for your applications, as well as the SpringBoard (Home screen) wallpaper from the default Black one.
Install applications not allowed, or not accepted in the App Store.
SSH. This means you can browse the files on the device, as well as store your own files on your iPod touch or iPhone, if you please.
There are other things you can do.

I don't know why I just typed all this up... Usually I'm an asshole.

You mean you can't change the wallpaper on an unjailbroken one?

Thanks for the fast and helpful responses everyone!! Keep 'em coming! Anyone know about the internet phone thing?

That seems like kind of a silly thing to overlook on the devs part unless there's some kind of security issue with changing the springboard wallpaper, but I don't see how there would be. Maybe in the next firmware update they'll make the option available.

    Edit: Thanks fyvel!
