Well you see, here's the story, I live in the Caribbean and obviously we don't have AT&T, Verizon nor T-Mobile and so we have to resort to jailbreaking our iPhones.

I've been saving up to get a iPhone 4G to then jailbreak it, and I finally got the money after working for a week during my vacation at this computer store. Since I'm very good with the boss, I told her I was getting the iPhone and if she could jailbreak it for me since she has jailbroken dozens of iPhones. She told there is no jailbreak for iPhones 4G+ bought in the Apple Store, and that I have to buy the factory jailbreak one which costs like $1200 from the $300 average.

I wasn't even going to bother saving up that much when I already have a Blackberry and resorted to ordering a iTouch. After doing that I started looking for some apps for when it comes and stumbled on this site where it said that you can jailbreak the iPhone.

Did I really make such a big and completely stupid mistake?

You're getting your terms mixed up a bit. Jailbreaking is when you 'hack' your device to allow 3rd party apps/tweaks to be installed on your device. But what you need is an unlock, which is currently not available right now (from my knowledge). So yes, you can jailbreak, but you still won't be able to use the iPhone until you unlock it.

As ChrisL said there is no unlock for the iPhone currently on 4.1. You made the right decision.

Well, that unlock is for iOS 4.0/4.0.1. If you had bought the iPhone 4 after September 7th (so around a month and a half ago) it would've came with iOS 4.1, which currently doesn't have an unlock.

Actually, I thought PwnageTool could hacktivate the iphone 4 at 4.1. When I used it, it came with the option.
