So I just bought a new iPod touch 2G 32GB with FW2.2 out of the box, played with it a bit and then connected it to my PC running Vista x64.
iTunes said "theres an update available" so I let it download the fw update 2.2.1, 2 minutes later it said "preparing iPod for update" or something, and shortly after that an error message appeared.
I don't recall what exactly it said, but after that my iPod wasn't detected anymore and just displayed the "connect to iTunes" screen.
I tried putting it in DFU mode, successfully, windows made the "new hardware" sound and drivers were installed, but still iTunes doesn't detect the iPod.

I tried different USB ports, iTunes is up to date...what do I do?
I know theres probably a bazillion threads like this, but none I found covered DFU not working, please help

What did you do on the connect to itunes? Try rebooting and reinstalling iTunes. I'd say you go into DFU with itunes closed then open it. it should say "an ipod has been detected in recovery mode. You need to restore this iPod before you can use it". And just do a restore. But after a jailbreak you have to get to the "connect to itunes" thing to restore. Try getting it in recovery(not DFU).

Hold the home button, then connect the USB cable. Keep holding until iTunes sees it. Works every time.

Try on Windows XP w/ iTunes pre-installed.
