So a while back I successfully jailbroke and installed Cydia AND Icy on my 3.0 iPod 2G, then I found out Cydia won't work when you do that.
So I try jailbreaking my iPod again like the articles I read told me to do, but no matter how accurate I do the three steps, it just won't start.
Are there any alternatives/fixes to this won't make me have to jailbreak? I don't care about Icy, I just want Cydia.

Edit: I am using Redsn0w 0.8 on a Vista 64 bit laptop by the way.

I don't really understand - What state is your iPod in right now? Can it turn on?

Yes, it works completely, but I have Cydia and Icy installed on it. When I try to install anythng in Cydia or Icy (even the updates) it tells me there is an internal error and it stops.
I googled it already and a lot of the results said to just re-jailbreak it and install Cydia only, but it redsn0w isn't jailbreaking it for me now. (The "Hold power button, power and home, home only steps)

DFU mode is often difficult to do - Try putting it into DFU Mode BEFORE opening Redsn0w, that's how I did it.
    Follow this exactly:
    1. Turn iPod ON
    2. Plug into PC
    3. While iPod is on, hold down the top and home buttons for EXACTLY 10 seconds
    4. After those 10 seconds, let go of the top button and hold the home button for exactly 10 seconds
    5. Then let go of the home button
    6. The iPod screen should be BLACK
    7. Now open redsn0w and follow the steps

    Hope this helps.

I just tried it and got nothing, but I have a few questions.
(I did have a white screen flash when I first start holding power and home though.)
    Should I have iTunes on?
Should I have it syncing while doing this? (at the "slide to cancel" screen.)
Thanks a ton though, I think I might be able to get this!

Sadly, still nothing, but, should I have it at the home screen, or slide to unlock screen?

Either or. Are you sure your doing DFU mode right? Its hardwired into the iPod so there is no chance it is not working, you must be doing something wrong.

It doesn't matter. Make sure you're getting the timing right though. A trick is to hold the power and home buttons for 10 seconds like normal, but continue holding the home button until you hear the beep come from your computer, announcing that your iPod has been recognized.

use the iclarified tutorial (in my sig) and a stopwatch. You should find it easier that way
