The timing for entering DFU mode has to be exact. Have the ipod on and have it plugged in and then hold the home button and the power button until it shuts off and for exactly 2 Mississippi keep holding and then let go of the power button and hold the home button for 30 seconds.

First you have to make sure whether you are in the real DFU mode. To do this, make sure your Ipod is off and pluged into the computer. Next, hold the sleep and the home button for exactly ten seconds. Then, let go of the sleep button and keep holding the home button for another 10 second. If done correctly, the Ipod screen will be BLACK and ITunes will tell you to restore it. If you don't get it right the first time just keep trying to get it into DFU mode. Reminder: DFU mode is when the ipod screen is BLACK and restore mode is when the screen shows the connect to Itunes diagram.

He might need to enter dfu mode to make the computer reconize the ipod so iliberty would not help and he may be on 2.0 and iliberty does not detect 2.0.
