    Hi everybody.
I am ready to Jailbreak my iPod Touch 2g and have got the custom firmware ready, but I cannot get my ipod into DFU mode! I have tried dozens of times, with every technique I can find but it will not work. When I hold down the home and power buttons, the apple logo appears in 2 seconds rather than 10!

Does anybody have any ideas or a sure-fire way to get into DFU mode? Help would be much appreciated.

this has been covered in 2,423,052,309,586,035,135 therads...

You're just not doing it right or it would work, no matter how many billions of times you've tried.

Hold home and power (for safety's sake since youre saying the apple logo comes up early, hold the home first, then both and start counting) for ten seconds, time it with a stopwatch or at least count 'one-mississippi, etc., then let go of power and continue to hold home for 6-8 sec. (everyone says a different number but 8 always was the magic number for me.) Then your comp should recognize an apple device in recovery mode and itunes should automatically come up and ask you if you want to restore the ipod. If you've already done the pre-jailbreak stage of applying the redsn0w patch then you just need to restore to the pwned firmware.

Goodluck, and net time, search before you post... everyone has asked this question. Literally. Everyone.

I don't think I can go to DFU mode easily without windows vista. With the sound it lets me know exactly when to release power button and home button. Those instructions never work for me. It it not 10secs then 30sec. It like 6sec then another 6sec with vista. I tried two different ipods and the time is around the same. By the way, red tool was not able to detect my ipod in dfu mode but itune and quickpwn do

On Vista it's the exact same time as others have said, 10 and then 10-30.
Never fails me, unless I don't do it right.

On Mac, you need the 10.5.6 DFu fix.

Oh, yeah, forgot that Macs won't allow DFU Mode for some reason.
