I just dual booted my toshiba laptop with windows vista and Linux Ubuntu 9.04 and I was wondering if I could develop iPhone apps in Linux because the mac os x is built on a unix solid core. I wouldn't mind making jailbroken iPhone apps or not having interface builder. I just want to make iPhone apps.

I don't think you can on Linux, but if you have a PC you can use a OSX 86 distro.

He means running OS X within a Virtual Machine. That way you can run Xcode within that. The only problem is 1. It's illegal, 2. It's slow, and 3. You need a fairly powerful computer (OS X requires at a minimum 1GB of RAM).

On the upside, you do get access to the IDE as well as the iPhone simulator.
