Dell recovery partition: can I just format it and install an OS?

    I dont need the Dell recovery partition, so can I just stick in a windows 7/ubuntu installation disk and format the partition and install one of those OS's on it?

    Yes. Those partitions are never useful unless you plan to warranty your computer.

    Any OS additions or changes will void any warranty with name brand companies.

    That sucks, my warrenty was voided years ago then. I hope the four years of accidental damage coverage still works.
