I was decrypting the ipod touch 2g (and 3g) firmware and both of them came up with an error when i tryed to open them with a program to open dmg files on windows. I am running windows 7 btw, and whenever i try to open it it usually says it is corrupted in some programs and in hfs explorer, it says unsupported file type.

P.S. I used vfdecrypt to decrypt the main filesystem.

I don't think that vfdecrypt is compatible with Windows 7. I've been having similar issues.

Are you literally kidding me? It lets you open the filesystem on your computer. So say you accidentally delete something important the iPod needs to function, you can simply go into the decrypted firmware and get the file without having to completely restore the ipod.

Also you have to compile genpass yourself to get the code you need to decrypt the firmware if you're having trouble. Also yes vfdecypt works on Windows 7, I used it a few days ago :3

My Windows 7 tells me that vfdecrypt isn't compatible when I run the compatibility check... :/

Is there a "genpass" for linux?

Nevermind, I got genpass and installed it.

Now there's just the compiling errors I have to deal with for vfdecrypt.

Ah! You need to have lcrypto for Linux, or libcrypto if you are on Windows if I'm not mistaken.

If it does ask for dll's that start with "cyg" in their name, then you most likely need cygwin for it (but I think that's only if you compile with it).

Umm can't you also "open" the file system by renaming the .ipsw to .zip??
