Use iTunes to make a lower quality version of it. It will be smaller, but it won't sound as good.

Re-encoding from one lossy format to another (MP3, AAC, etc) is generally not recommended.

I would suggest you gather all your favorite music in one folder. It probably won't take up more than 3-4 GB. Only choose the music YOU LIKE and once iTunes says you have over 1.5 days of music you're good to go. Why ? Because the battery lasts up to 36 hours but not if you play a game once in a while or read something, use wifi, etc.

And since you need to connect it to a computer to recharge it, you can always transfer music back and forth with that random-something (forgot what it was called) from iTunes.

So you really don't care about sound quality ?

I think there's a program called "mp3diet" or something like that. It will decrease kbps and mp3s will take up less space. But the quality will suffer. Not sure if it's freeware tho.

Go into iTunes and go to Edit, Preferences, then Import Settings...

It should say some bother about AAC or some nonsense, change it to MP3.

Where it says Setting, you can put it to a certain Bitrate. The lower the number, the smaller the size, the sh*ttier the quality.

Then, is is as simple as right clicking a song and clicking Create MP3 version. It will make another copy right under or near the original. Sync that one and you're gold.

I still don't think you need more than 1.5 days of music on an iPod touch (3-4 GB). Except maybe if you buy a wall charger (which I think is money down the drain; it should've been included in the packaging).
