My name is Christian Bundy, living in Oregon. I have an iPod Touch (Note: NOT AN iPHONE) which was working fine with firmware version 1.1.1 . This is great, and I've been having fun with it, lots of messing around, and lots of restores, haha.

I've been trying to help a friend with their iPod touch (firmware version 1.1.1) and it hasn't been working. Downgrading is (as most of you know) a mess. There are lots of people offering advice, but most doesn't work.

I've tried everything from a regular restore (after recovery mode) to iPhuc'ing the '.dfu' files to the phone.

NOTHING WORKS. So I tried it on my own iPod. Yes, that's right, I took my beautiful 1.1.1 iPod and gave it 1.1.3. You see, this wouldn't have been such a big problem, except for it hit an error. Unknown error(1603).

So I tried to get it back to 1.1.1.
    Unknown error(1).

So now I'm hanging there in the balance. Stuck in recovery mode without a working firmware.
The other iPod is using 1.1.3.

And I need them both on 1.1.1
    Any suggestions?

    1. Turn off the iPod by holding both of the physical buttons.

    2. when it turns on, keep holding your home button

    3. Keep holding it until itunes recognizes it.

Windows XP. SP2. I've been having some problems lately, but the computer is fine.

I'm not having an problem with iTunes recognizing it.
    It's being recognized just fine.

It's just that I can't get any valid firmware on it.

    Oh, sorry...

Its will ask you to restore, and then you use the Shift+Click on restore, and then pick the 1.1.1 firmware file. I did that with my cousins new iPod.

Yes, this is the iPhuc method. The only method.
I've tried this, and it's not working.
I just get the error message.

I don't think you understand. YOU GET AN ERROR MESSAGE. haha.
If it were that simple, I would have done it by now. It's a bigger problem than that.

    Using iPhuc:

[1] I put it into recovery mode: "enterrecovery"
[2] I copy the file to the iPod: "filecopytophone WTF.s5l8900xall.RELEASE.dfu"
    [3] I Shift+Click 'Restore'.
[4] I get an error message.
