    Hey all!

I have been scouring the net to find a theme (I think I am using the correct term) for use at night or in a dark room and maintain (eye) dark adaptation.

The point is your eyes have adapted to the darkness and you still want to use the ipod for web browsing or whatever, but when you look at the ipod your eyes loose the dark adaptation. So when you look away from the screen everything is black again and your eyes have to readjust to the amount of light. When star gazing, ppl normally use a red flashlight to look at the star charts.

In fact, the application Star Walk has a "night mode" that makes everything a monochrome red color.

However, if you exit the program the overlay goes away and blasts your eyes with full color, ruining your dark adaptation.

So maybe something like this, although the color is to bright.

    Two questions -
    1. Is there a theme that already exists to maintain eye dark adaption?
    2. If not how hard would it be to make one?

It would be really nice if it was like an icon that you pressed and the overlay would come down over everything, kinda like a day/night switch.
This would be fine even if it had to restart springboard.

This would be useful in so many situations, not just star gazing.
I am willing to work on it, however, my programming skills are weak.

    Thanks for reading.

I'm pretty sure you could just make an icon mask theme and apply it at night let me look into the use of masks and creations and ill see what i can do for you

An AppIconOverlay.png in the UIImages section of a theme would do the trick but that only works for Apps bought from Itunes... Not from Cydia or obtained by other means...

    Will continue searching...

can provide example if iv confused you

    AppIconOverlay also works for webclips.

This sounds pretty interesting, however, I'm a newb to any of this theme stuff.
That sounds like it would take care of the icons, what about when an app is running?
The whole point is to not loose the dark adaptation of the eyes...
so as soon as say the email app opens it will be full color and very white...
Is there some sort of setting on the ipod that will make the screen monochrome, then the ability to choose the color of the monochrome to red?
If it were some global setting...
    Thanks for the continued help.

Well an overlay for every app wouldn't be possible as far as i know... and an html overlay would be behind the icons i think...
