Ok, so I got two new iPhones today, yay for me... I know!

Sold 'em both on ebay. Cleared them out (the proper way as described on this site) and had great success with my wife's 3G. Re-Jailbroke it for the guy I sold it too... its all good!

Oh yeah, except for my 3GS totally hosed when I was wiping it. Not quite bricked, just got stuck on the Apple screen no matter what I did (DFU, etc etc). So I was forced to restore it the "official" apple way to get it to do anything at all. Which, unfortunately, upgraded the OS to iOS 4. Damnit!

So I followed this tutorial on how to downgrade back to 3.1.3
    http://lifehacker.com/5572003/iPhone1,1_3.1.3_7E18_Restore.ipsw

Everything went fine until I hit the last two steps. Instead of getting the "iphone could not be restored because of unknown error (1015)", I got "because this device isn't eligible for the requested build". F*&^!

So when I launch RecBoot it just exits the recovery mode right into i0S 4 again. What am I doing wrong everyone?

    Thx for the help,
    J

Wouldn't that just get me out of Recovery mode? Its not that I'm having issues getting out of it, just that it doesn't boot 3.1.3

    I'll try it tho

Has anyone actually took the time to look at that method?
People are reporting success with it in the comments and they haven't mentioned having their SHSH blobs backed up.

You mean with backed-up SHSH blobs or did you find a workaround?

If Apple are still signing the 3.1.3 firmware you can downgrade. Otherwise you'll need to have previously backed up your SHSH blobs required for firmware signing locally (using the firmware umbrella) or on Saurik's server through Cydia. You then redirect iTunes to these blobs for signing rather than Apple's servers. If you don't have these blobs and Apple have stopped signing 3.1.3 (which I think is the case now) then you can't downgrade. If you have blobs for a lower firmware backed up (e.g. 3.1.2) you should be able to downgrade to that.
