Apple has some real competition coming its way via the cydia store. A place where developers can sell applications not approved by apple. Currently Cydia already has a list of priced apps, cydia store aims to take away the sketchiness of buying apps from a kind of underground environment.

Wow!! that's pretty cool, but if the Dev Team can't crack the new firmwares, where does that leave this?

Will this be good or bad?

On the bright side, there will probably be better apps available.

On the realistic side, the apps will probably cost A LOT.

Exactly. Its not really a matter of hacking firmware anymore. There is nothing apple can do to stop it without changing hardware like the 2G touch and we all see how good that went for apple.

    Very good point!

As newer , possibly un-jailbreakable, ipod get released in the future, will people revert to buying older 1/2G ipod touches just for this?

    I will not

Yeah, I guess you guys are right, they'd (Apple) have to change hardware to avoid vulnerable iPods......hence, 2G Touch

    Glad I have a 1st Gen

The only thing that worries me about this is how will this affect the apple vs EFF DCMA issue? Could be good or bad.

    That's interesting.

Hopefully in the future Apple will open their sandbox limits a little more than they are now.
