Hey. I was browsing through packets to see what I could install on my jailbroken 1.1.4 iTouch. I saw Cydia and read about it. When I saw dev tools gcc and Java...everything around me started to shake. Same feeling like when you swallow a very hot sip of tea. I was amazed. I know the iTouch is a kick-ass device...but that would make it the sh*t. So is it worth it to replace installer with cydia? Can I have them both? Is it true about the gcc and Java?

It depends on what you are really interested in. You can have both, you know.

But to me, having Cydia completely replace Installer.app is a waste. Last time I used it, you couldn't add sources, and some apps are only availible through Installer when they first come out.

If you really want it, I would just get Cydia + fake_bsd.

    Just Installed Cydia!

I was sick and tired of ZIphone installer crash on me and I jb again with iLib and I have cydia which is much better so far. I installed gcc...and bash and all the others but they don't appear on the screen. what do I need to install so the terminal appears?

Cydia's subsystem is sooo much more stable and powerful than BSD.

Once a source tutorial/adder in cydia is in place, EVERYONE will be on cydia. Also, cydia has been ported to 2.0 already. so yeah

cydia is still a beta app. once it will be finished it will be waaayy better than installer. Better bsd subsystem/better development tools/advanced search/restore broken apps... etc.

but for now you can't add sources very easily. only with a text editor so i say you use installer for now.

So, after watching the dev teams new vid, Cydia was looking pretty good!

Do you think it will take over in popularity from installer now that 2.0 is upon us?

i personally like the installer better it runs better for me so until the cydia updates with a source adder then im going to stick with the installer but does any one have any thing to say about the new 2.0 firmware and jailbreaking!?!?
