Note: I already obtained the ECID iBec whatever files I needed.

I just updated Cydia Installer and it gave me the option to obtain the ECID and whatnot. Now is says "This iPhone 3G has an ECID SHSH on file."

Is this something I can pull off the phone just in case? What does it mean?

These/this are the file(s) you need for the 3GS to insure you'll be able to jailbreak in the future, there was news that the 3.1 firmware update may 'lock' the iPhone, never again allowing a jailbreak. These files must be stored for future reference. It indeed is a GOOD thing =)
