What if instead of a backup method we could have Cydia accounts where it saves all of your repos and packages and then if you needed to restore you re-jailbreak and sign into Cydia and bring up your account page where it can show you a list of all your installed apps and packages and you can uncheck whichever ones you'd like to be removed from your re-install list and then just hit Install all. It would surely take a while but much quicker than manually finding and installing everything you had again. I'll have a mock-up UI done in a while

Sounds like a good idea actually, although if saurik implemented it, I doubt it should/would be free.

I mean, it'd take saurik's server space, so a fee would be nice for him.

Or a free version loaded with 316210 ads, and a paid one w/o Lol. But yea, this is a really good idea actually.

Lol don't steal ideas, right now I think it's personmann's

anyway, it's a really good idea but the logistics are really impractical (of not impossible) and it would almost certainly not be free

You guys always talk about price, like you have a choice or say in it. You don't. The developers do.

Good idea though, possibly send saurik an e-mail.

    A solution not requiring accounts:

A specialized file (small in size) (readable by Cydia) can be exported from Cydia at any time, and emailed to the user.

Later, that file could be imported, reinstalling everything.

i think that the accounts idea would be really useful.
it's kind of hard to have to get all the thing u once had(like themes, apps, and repos) once you re-jailbreak an ipod and sometimes the backup doesn't work(at leats for me)

Yeah, that could have unique codes for each app. It could even be a .txt file
    nice idea

yeah, that would also solve the basic apps idea. you could host it and installing it would install basic apps like winterboard, openSSH, sbsettings, etc. this could be an addition TO the accounts!

but i agree, the accounts would take up too much server space if it hosted all the apps that the user downloaded, so the account could host this instead!
