Not trying to be rude just covering all bases, but can't you upgrade the firmware first then do what you want? If I am missing something maybe someone can jump in here.

What are you talking about, isn't there a complete jailbreak out now for the 2G?? Either way my 14yr old niece has the semi-tethered and she has no issues of loosing anything, so good luck with your issue and hopefully someone can help you.

    Cheers, The Crow

Go to cydia and download APTBack up. It will back up all your sources and cydia apps. Then backup your ipod on itunes. Then jailbreak to untethered, then restore from your jailbroken backup?

dont update if u dont want to
nothing will happen if you dont update.
you'll just have an out of date thing. but itll work exactly the same as it did before.
