customizing

    do you think apple will come out with something so we can change the background not the wall paper, or to change the dock or just customizing it completely for the ipod touch/iphone

    because that requires background processes. which apple is strictly against.

    No it doesn't.
    First of all, if Apple were to produce it, they would be able to fork processes into the background.
    Also, the feature could simply be built into SpringBoard.

    I highly doubt that it'll ever happen; look at what other features are already missing.
    I mean, MMS and video recording are in free phones, but the iPhone still doesn't officially support them..

    The reason that it is unlikely to happen:

    They want everyone to have the same (easy) experience, and they believe the interface is optimized. Changing the interface violates the Experience, which means that it's no longer standard (aka: you're going the Windows route of giving the user too much control), which means it's verboten.
