I am searching the internet for a way to turn a pdf or word document into an ebook the book app can use. The pdf viewer app only allows page by page scrolling which is slow with a big document and the ebook already has the pages to the right scale. So is there a guide or way to convert pdfs and word documents into ebooks for the book app?

the books reader can view .txt files. the formatting will probably come out wonky, but all you have to do is copy/paste the text from the pdf into a text edit app and save it as a .txt file.

The best way is to copy paste your text in Word, and to save it as an html. Then just put the file in Media/Ebooks.
The html are automaticly fit to the size of the Ipod, so you won't have formatting problems.

If you have the full version of Acrobat, you can just save the PDF directly into an HTML file. You can also convert online using Zamzar - www.zamzar.com

Just make sure to break it into smaller pieces - book length files take forever to render when you open the application.

Well, uh - break it up. Take the large text file and make it into like 10 smaller ones. It's more difficult for the HTML ones. I posted previously on one of the book threads about a tool called FileSplitter which will automatically break a TXT file into however many (10, 20, etc.) smaller TXT files you want. It works well - just search for the thread...

If you have access to Linux, you can try split command line to break text file into small ones.
