I friend of mine has a iPod touch 2nd Gen. He got it for Christmas in 2008, so I am sure its not under warranty. His iPod makes crackily sounds through anything (headphones, speakers) it even makes those sounds through the internal speaker.

He has reloaded it and upgraded the firmware, nothing seems to fix it. Its rarely been dropped (only on carpet and like once). its in almost perfect condition. Never been wet, I am not sure why its doing this.

Has anyone else had this problem? What can I do? I am very hardware oriented and could replace any parts that need replacing, but I dont know where to start.

    Thanks,
    Jake

Agreed. Return it to the Apple store.

It's not under warranty is it? Apple will just tell him to buy a new one.
