I feel for you on this one, hope you get it sorted out soon enough.

I'm pretty sure the outer layer you smashed is called the "Digitizer". You can get replacements, and there are how to/replacement guides online. They are relatively inexpensive, some sellers even sell them with any tools you'll need to fix your touch.

Have a look on somewhere like eBay for a replacement, unless forum users can point you in a better direction.

Hope you sort this out soon, and have a look for a decent silicone skin, this may have protected your Touch when you dropped it.

yep definitely sounds like you broke the digitizer. This is what registers the presses etc.

your only option is to buy a replacement. otherwise there is virtually nothing you can do.

in the mean time, the device is useless without the digitizer.

Looks perfect, hope you sort this out soon.

As for the back plate, have a look for something like a silicone skin, or hardshell / case, it'll cover up any dinks and dents, again on eBay, you'll get something for a few quid.
