This morning I dropped my iPod touch on concrete and cracked the screen... I know it's not covered by Apple's warranty, but my question is... How much is a new screen and is it safe to do a DIY job?? Or should I try and sell it for as much as possible? If so, how much could I get for it??

I'm thinking about selling it, going back to my Nano and saving for the iPhone 4. What do you guys think???

Just an FYI, the 3rd gen 8gb model is just a rebranded 2nd gen. Just thought I'd tell you so you dont think I linked the wrong part.

    if its just the glass,

If the screen underneath is damaged you will also need
    http://www.ifixit.com/iPod-Parts/iPod-Touch-Gen-2-LCD/IF140-002

As for how difficult, I'm not really sure as I've never done something like this before. But according to the site I linked, its certianly not simple.

$70 just for the glass... Wow... I think I'll save that and get an iPhone or iPod 4G

I got the whole glass fixture(not the lcd) for $20 on ebay, including shipping. It is sent from China, but it only took 9 days to get over here. Most of the ebay ads are for just the glass screen which you would then need to pry off the frame, but there is one ad there for the whole glass and frame. So it's as easy as popping off the broken one and popping back on the new one.

This is all assuming that the internal lcd is fine.

Ah a case wouldn't have saved it this time... Fell face down on the edge of a concrete step...
