After perusing some of the cracked app sites and seeing the quality of the websites and in some cases they are actually easier to use than the app store, I was wondering about how there existince is allowed by Apple?
Surely they must be a major thorn in Apples side. How do they get away with flaunting virtually every app for free that is available? Why hasn't Apple slapped lawsuits on them all? I'm curious what the reason is.

But my 2 cents is that Apple is secretly running these sites, and get the paypal donations.

Cracked Apps do not hurt Apple. It hurts the Developers who produce the apps.

Most of the Cracked apps that are cracked are not directly hosted on the site but linked from other places. Which does not put them in any harm. Its like how you can embed video from sites like Hulu or YouTube. You're not giving them the exact video, but you're linking them to where they can be seen.

Apple gets a cut of the profits.

So by extension, it hurts Apple.

And Apple is the kind of company (imo) who would care about losing a little cash.

Of which is used to only maintain servers etc. If they were worried about something like this, don't you think they would go after Music pirates who strip the DRM off their songs and spread em out?

And if people are using cracked apps, they dont really need those servers, do they?

It should be noted that Apple DOES make an effort to shut those sites down when it can find them - that's one other reason why we don't discuss cracked apps here.

Those are older (hence the name "archive") apps for older jailbreaks.

    Cool

It's just gotta' bug Apple that the developers (and themselves) are getting ripped off to such an extent. You'd think that they'd be actively targeting the closure of these sites.

Maybe there thinking is that only the 1G touch will ever be jailbreakable?
