I just don't see to much of a reason to root it at the moment. Any Android users want to convince me otherwise?

ROMs, Kernels, better battery life, smoother experience, customization, access to root.

Nope. A ROM completely replaces your current OS with a new, more improved version (depending on the ROM). A kernal is pretty much the "nucleus" of the Android OS. There are good and bad kernals, same as there are good and bad ROMs. Kernals can also provide the ability to overclock the processor in your phone. Better battery life and a smoother experience comes from a nice, clean ROM. ROMs don't contain much (if any, depending on the ROM) bloatware to slow down the device. Less bloatware also increases battery life.

Well, with the Galaxy S III there is a ROM called Blazer ROM, it is exactly the same (UI wise) as the ROM that you have on your phone now, but it has loads of battery improvements. It is said to increase your battery by up to 50%.
