Here is what I think Apple could do with the Copy and Paste method.

First: double-tap with two fingers to activate.
Second: Highlight text just similar to what you would do if u were trying to edit text.
Third: Drag the highlight area down to the bottom of the screen where the Clipboard would be (This is like editing your iPod Music toolbar at the bottom.)
Fourth: Drag the copied item from the toolbar/Clipboard to the desired location.

You would be able to hold up to five items in the bottom just like u can have five items in the iPod tool bar.

The clipboard button/key would appear somewhere on the pop-up keyboard and u would click it to get the clipboard to show up to select your copied item.

Just double tap with two fingers to activate/deactivate the Copy and Paste Clipboard/Highlight.

    What do you guys think?

Edit: further clarified where the Clipboard would be
    Edit 2: keyboard integration

The problem with that is the double-tap is already taken for auto-zooming. Maybe a triple-tap or other way to do it? Nice idea though, I've thought about this a lot myself.
