okay so you can find out where you are without wifi! the ipt4 has a new location thingy. im not sure if it on the 3g... so what you do is take a picture. then go to photo locations in the phto app and then it will put a red pin where the pic was taken. then youcan tell where you are! tadaaa gps on ipt4

its called Geotagging and like kzr22 said, it only shows the pins when you have a location signal (wifi-only location for iPod Touch)

It uses that cached location. And you don't have to be connected to a network, it just pings off of a network to get a location.

Go into the middle of a desert, turn wifi off, and I guarantee it will not work.

There is no GPS in the iPod Touch.

And to find your location normally, just hit the location button in maps... simple.

And I just tried your method, it doesn't work. Logically it wouldn't, and I've tried it,

YOU NEED WIFI FOR IT TO WORK.

    This makes literally no sense.
What would compell you to believe that this was possible?

It's good to know if you don't know your iPod has this feature. This has been around since the release of the 3G iPhone for iPhone 2.5G users to create a virtual positioning system. So it's not really new.
