My question: How to convert HD podcast video for Touch 2G

The Hubble podcasts and Beautiful Places in HD are "HD" as are many of the other podcasts.

I don't know if they are 720 dpi HD, or 1080 HD.

    • Use your favorite converter.
    • For Mac OS X, I suggest Handbrake. For Windows, Xvid4PSP.
    • Select the preset iPod Touch/iPhone formats available.
    • For Handbrake, click Picture Settings and raise it as high as you can. For Xvid4PSP, click Video and select Resolution.
    • Click Start/Encode.
    • Wait.
    • Sync.
    • Enjoy.

report "MP4 iPhone or Touch" encoding on a windows laptop

    I used XviD4PSP

    XviD4PSP converted
Beautiful Places HD Pt. Reyes, CA National Seashore 1280x720 .mp4 110 MB
to Pt. Reyes National Seashore 480x272 .mp4 31.77 MB
    for the iPod Touch.

I did have to add the file to the iTunes library and it was found in Movies.

I tried the sync and I got this pop-up...

"Are you sure you want to sync movies? All existing songs, movies
and TV shows on the iPod "Connie's iTouch" will be removed
and replaced with movies from your iTunes library."

I will really lose all my music and music videos

Do you have your iPod set to Auto Sync or Manually sync?

That is probably why. I have mine set to automatically sync certain playlists and movies. Just do what you would with Music and your other videos. I haven't used Manual sync with my iPod Touch ever because Auto is much easier and more organized.

Okay, I will "check" all the stuff I want to remain in the Touch. Right?

Are you moving over to automatic syncing? If so, yeah, thats what you basically do. And if you want to sync only certain music, you can do what I do and make a Smart Playlist of only Top Rated songs. And organize that. Same goes for Movies, TV Shows, and Podcasts.

Yes. The video is first-class. It is beautiful!

    THANK YOU, TESLANAUT

It plays on uTube.. if I press in the "corner-arrows" it has black bars top and bottom.
I did because the "ON" logo was running slightly off-screen.

Question 1. Ought I have to selected a different "output resolution"
other than 480x272... and, what output size?

    Here are the "defaults"
    Input Resolution: 1280x720
    Output Resolution: 480 272
    Resize filter: Lanczos4Resize
    Input aspect: 1.778 (16:9)
    Output aspect: 1.765 (1:1)
    How fix aspect difference: Disabled
    Crop top, bottom: 0 0
    Crop left, right: 0 0
    Black width, height: 0 0
    Autocrop sensitivity 24

Question 2. Instead of "How fix aspect difference: Disabled"
should I have selected... SAR, Crop, or Black

I will select from those different settings, to see what happens.
