    Hayulp!

I have a successfully jailbroken 32Gig ITouch. Everything was going beautifully until I decided it was about time I changed the root password, which I did using passwd, and term-vt100 on the Itouch. I exited term-vt100, and went back in to check. It threw me straight out again, with no opportunity to enter the password.

    Oh dear.

So I powered off, then on again. It now gives me the "Edit Home Screen - To rearrange icons, touch and hold..." screen; whether I didmiss it or not, I get the spinny wheel and it starts again. It takes around 10 secs each time.

The screen is underneath default Springboard layout (not Summerboard), all my installed apps are there, but squashed onto 2 screens.

I can touch an app icon and it will start to load, but throw me out again.

I can ssh into it from my PC, also use WinSCP, but... here I fall down. I have used ssh to change the password back to alpine successfully, but haven't a clue where to go from here.

So, in the immortal words of Penelope Pitstop - Hayulp! I'm well and truly stuffed!

    Heyy
    Best bet
    Restore..
Then wait around a little longer for the 1.1.4 jailbreak

Search for how to force restore
Ill try to get you a link

Hey thanks Freeskier - I'm re-jailbreaking as we speak.

    And lo!

    LIGHT DAWNS.........

While installing the BSD subsystem, a little notice has just come up:

"Do not use passwd to change the password on 1.1.3, it is currently broken and will make Springboard crash continuously!"

Duh. Just one of those things you read and take no notice of.

Which raises the question- what should I be using to change the root password?
