I'm trying to connect our new Touch 4thG to our TV through Apple TV wirelessly. I have both connected to our network and, as far as I can tell, have started AirPlay. I open icons on the Touch, but see no AirPlay icon anywhere. Any help?

    Does the application support AirPlay?

Also if you are trying to mirror the iPod's screen to the Apple TV that requires an iPhone 4S or an iPad 2 or later.

Kanex has just released the US$59 ATV Pro HDMI to VGA adapter. This little video adapter may well be a hit with teachers and presenters who want to mirror their iPad screens to VGA projectors -- without tethering the iPad to a clunky VGA cable.
Up until now, if you intended to display your iPhone or iPad screen on a projector without HDMI inputs, your choices were few. First, you could use an Apple or third-party Dock connector to VGA cable. That, of course, limits your mobility to the length of the cable you're using to connect to the projector; the Apple VGA dongle is also prone to falling out if you're wandering around.
Putting an Apple TV into the mix (and an accessible local WiFi network) lets you can leverage Apple's AirPlay mirroring, making it simple to send iPhone or iPad screens to a big screen with no cable clutter. Unfortunately, a lot of legacy projectors out in the field aren't equipped with HDMI inputs -- and it's a bad moment when you show up at your meeting without the right connections. If you have your Mac and a copy of either Reflection or AirServer, you can mirror your iOS device to your laptop... but that's a lot of gear to lug around if all you want to do is present and/or demo from your iPad.

I am also having the same problem. I have some computers on the wired part of my network, and others on wireless. The appletv2 shows in itunes on ALL (both wired and wireless) computers that there exists an AppleTv speaker, but only the computers on the same "side" of the network (wired, or wireless) can actually connect and use the appletv as an airplay device. I have Bell Fibe25 and they provide 2 devices to achieve wireless connectivity, the main VDSL unit that has 4 lan ports on the back, and a basic Cisco WAP610N that connects into one of the lan ports on the VDSL unit for the wireless part.

My firewall is turned off as well.

Can anyone shed some light on why this is happening? My MacPro does not have wireless, and it would not be practical to connect my AppleTV2 to Ethernet cable.

    Thanks in advance,

You might try an app named "Remote". I use it on my iPhone 3G as a remote to access my iTunes content via Apple TV on my HDTV. It's not a mirror per say but it might be a solution for you.

If the iPod touch and the aTV are on and connected to the same WiFi network, you should be all set. In any app, double click the Home button to bring up the app switcher. Slide to the left and you'll see the AirPlay icon. Tap that, select your Apple TV, and you're set!
