My 8GB 3rd gen Touch is going to arrive tomorrow. It's completely out of my budget, but because of a snafu with Apple, I was offered a free one. So I'm about to be a new owner. I've been researching like mad the past two days, since I found out I was getting one. I knew NOTHING about them two days ago. Now I'm debating jailbreaking it and seeing what I can do with customizing and playing. I can't wait for my new computer to arrive so I can actually play with it--I'm going to have to synch it to my mum's laptop temporarily so I can check it out, which will suck.

Well, good luck with that. Jailbreaking the new 3.1.2 firmware is incredibly easy. I hope you don't run into any problems while jailbreaking.

Also, the new iPod touch 3G 8GB is a tethered jailbreak, meaning you will have to re run blackra1n every time you want to turn your iPod back on.

Yup. Not sure if I might wait a couple months and see if untethered comes out, or just deal with it.
