There's been a lot of confusion as to whether you can downgrade the new bootrom 8GB iPods. I made this video to clear some of that up, yes you can, without the need for any SHSH blobs. Just follow what I do in this tutorial and you should be fine with no errors.

Its got some nice relaxing music to go along with it, I wanted to try out youtubes video editor. And before you ask because you can see it in the clip, yeah my real name is Stephen

You cannot restore the newer 8gb MC devices, I'm not sure how often this has been said but its getting boring

16xx ones are the hardest ones to pin down, I had 1602 going on for the half hour prior to making that video. Try these
    • Make sure its in DFU mode (completely black screen)
    • Use a different USB port
    • Restart iTunes
    • Restart your OS
    • Try a different computer

Lather, rinse, repeat until it works

...and as per the announcement at the top of the forums - no links to firmwares on forum please. There's details in that annoucnemnet of what firmwares you can legally download.

Aren't you supposed to use the 3.1.2 2G firmware to do this guide?

It's the only one you can use, 8GB devices don't accept 3G firmwares
