This is a discussion thread for the "City of San Francisco Drops Macs Due to Lack of EPEAT" story posted on the front page.
No the actual city of San Francisco will no longer be buying Macs, for their 50 offices. They'll still be sold everywhere.
If you've ever used a Mac you'd know there's more than the price tag. Like, the superior user experience. Macs don't mean expensive. I'm not buying a Mac because it's expensive, I'm buying one for what it will do!
Keep living in your little bubble, Fanboy. On topic: I don't get why Apple shot themselves in the foot like that? Does anyone care to explain or put forward a theory why they would purposely remove all their Macs from EPEAT?
Did you mean to quote me or somebody else?! You can't replace any of the parts in Macbooks anymore so that's why it's cheaper to get a laptop where you can, you wouldn't want to send a laptop to an Apple repair centre just to get the battery replaced and pay Apple prices for it.
I'm not a Fanboy. I'm just stating what people miss. Does a price tag define a bad product? Is a Camero more expensive because it is a sports car or because it's a Chevy? Is a Mac more expensive because it's a Premium Laptop or because it's Apple. Think about that analogy, please. A Mac is far better for me in terms of what my career choice may be (photography, videography, stuff like that). Is it bad that I plan ahead? Is it okay if I get the machine that will best fit my needs? If not, there would be no such thing as competition in the market. If not, there would be no such thing an individual opinions.
No, they hand you a new laptop. And you don't pay if it's covered by the warranty. I dint know what kind of warranty you got on your PC, but Apple's warranty coverage and customer support is above excellent.
Breaking news: City of San Francisco employees purchase Macs on their own salary for use in the corporate world. More at six.
